I went bowling 6 or 7 times in my life and I was never good at it. Every time we played, I would consistently come 3rd or 4th depending on who I'm playing with.
A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I decided to go bowling. But this time around, we did something different. We decided to watch a couple of YouTube videos on the fundamentals of bowling. Simple things like how to how to approach the lane, where to aim, and how to let go of the ball. In 15 minutes I learned about a 4-step approach and how to release and follow-through.
Equipped with some theoretical knowledge, I was excited to put it into practice. At first, It was rough. I kept missing the beat and trying to do too much. But with practice, I started getting it right. I hit a strike! Then another one. Then a spare. For the first time I felt like I was working in the right direction. And I scored more than 100 points in all of the 3 games we played.
It was so much fun. The craziest part is that it took me only 15 minutes of watching Youtube to make a big leap. I played bowling so many times but I never took the time to learn the fundamentals. It makes me wonder - what are all the other areas where I can make a big leap with just a little bit of time and a desire to learn the fundamentals?
Youtube is a treasure chest of quick learnings on literally any topic out there. Great advice!
